Fr Bob Boyle
Fr. Bob Boyle was born in Derby, and grew up within the parish of St. Luke’s, attending the parish church from about the age 10 years. It was here that he learnt the faith and was prepared for confirmation. On leaving school he undertook an apprenticeship at Derby Locomotive Works, and continued to be employed there for 29 years in the production and refurbishment of railway locomotives. Following redundancy in 1996 he moved to Rolls-Royce and was involved in the manufacture of aero engine turbine blades. This lasted 6 years, until when after 9/11 there was a downturn in air travel and redundancy took him to the Carriage & Wagon Works, once again involved with railway vehicles.
Alongside his employment he continued to be at St. Luke’s and in nearly 40 years held most of the ‘offices’ from server to Sunday School teacher, PCC member to Churchwarden. In the early 1990’s, Bob trained as a Reader, before going forward for ordination, and trained at EMMTC. Fr. Bob was ordained Deacon in 2000, and Priest the following year, serving his curacy with Fr. Michael Brinkworth at St. Anne’s and St. John’s, Derby. From Derby Fr. Bob’s ministry took him to Paignton, Devon, and St. Matthew’s, Douglas in the Diocese of Sodor and Man, before returning to Devon as the Associate Priest of Dartmouth. He retired back to Derby in early 2021.
Fr. Bob enjoys time with family, holidays, walking and gardening on the allotment.
